Welcome, future scientist.
Thank you for your interest in the FLi Sci Scholars Program, a 2-year research program for high school students who will be the first in their family to go to college and/or come from a low-income background. No research experience needed.
What to expect
Accepted scholars are placed in one of our five focus programs: STEM, FLi Psy, Pre-Medical, Social Science, and Data Science. Learn about the programs.
How it works
- Apply any time. Applications are rolling, with no deadline.
- We review applications each year and will reach out by email with next steps.
- Missed a start date? If a cohort has already started, you'll be considered for the next one, as long as you're still eligible (for example, still in high school).
In college? This program is for high school students, but we're launching a new program for college students in 2027. Keep an eye on flisci.org.
A note on AI
No part of this application requires AI. We want your real answers and thoughts. You don't need to sound perfect, give the "best" answers (there aren't any), or have lots of experience. We want to understand your connection to science and how we can support you.
Using AI won't automatically disqualify you. But if we can't understand your real perspective from your application, it may be delayed or we may ask you to complete it again.

Tips for getting ready
- Draft first. Write your longer answers on paper, in your phone's notes, or in a Google Doc. Then copy them in.
- Have your school's address and ZIP code handy. You'll need them in the School section.
- Take breaks. Your answers save on your device as you go, so you can come back later on the same device and browser.
- It's okay to ask for feedback from a teacher, counselor, or family member. Just keep the ideas and words your own.
- There are no right answers, and you don't need any research experience. We want to get to know you.
